Fantasy Rambles

As a writer, this rule is thrown around so often it has, in fact, become a cliche. But, it is still an important rule. I still have some problems with following it in my first drafts of what I am working on. A few months ago I was sitting down and rereading some of the old scattered scenes and drabbles that I have jotted down (some a few years old) and cringed. Last year I started going to school for creative writing and I am planning on going back in the nest few months. One lesson I learned while writing a Flash Fiction was the turning point to making my writing more immersive. We know what the characters are feeling and so do our readers. We don't want to 'preach' at them about what is going on with our characters. As writers, we want our readers to feel what is going on. The man sitting on the train reading about an angsty teen having problems with his parents? We want him to remember back to that rebellious stage of his life, to put himself in the place of the teen. ...

I know its been awhile since I decided to do any of this, but I've been feeling kind of lost. Nothing else was really helping me find myself, so this is what I have. We can see how this works. I really haven't been feeling any drive to write these last couple months but I want to make that as my first step into getting back to me. So here I am, griping to a screen and maybe hoping that this time, I can do better. I will do better. And not just for myself, for my whole family. We always seem to get the shitty end of the stick that was stuck in the mud for the last three years. I'm not sure what made me decide to do this, but here I am. How about of little bit of an introduction first? My name is Lystra Vess,  but as we can be friends here, you can call me Lys. I'm a fantasy/horror writer with enough lighthearted banter to make the world swirls of grey.
